In January, the Team 5 Foundation hosted a soon-to-be annual fundraiser coinciding with incredibly popular National Shooting Sports Foundation SHOT Show, held in Las Vegas.
The event, held at Stoney’s Rockin Country, who donated the space, was attended by our newest Team 5 Ambassador, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, Sergeant Dakota Meyer, USMC who has joined Team 5 to help bring awareness to the importance of the remote medical missions the Foundation provides. A 5K run and fundraiser are being organized by Team 5 and Sgt. Meyer to raise funds and awareness for soldiers who have fallen since 9/11. Each participant will wear a dog tag in honor of that fallen service person and proceeds go to the families of the fallen.
Adding to the list of influential attendees was Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Florent Groberg, Lone Survivor author Marcus Luttrell, Steve Reichert, Former Texas Governor and Presidential Candidate Rick Perry, and MMA fighter and actor Randy Couture.
During the event, popular web-series Expedition Overland, who partnered with Team 5 to provide awareness and logistical support in Guatemala, brought their modified expedition from Montana and launched a new Team 5-dedicated video, which can be viewed on Team-5.org.
“I was blown away by the number of sponsors and public figures who put other events aside to make it to ours. It's humbling to know that so many people are looking to be involved in something bigger than themselves.” Said Eric Linder, Founder of Team 5. Several sponsors donated products to Team 5, which were auctioned and raffled off, raising enough funds collectively to deploy an entire Team 5 mission to the indigenous areas of Peru four hours north of Pucallpa along the river Rio Ucayali.
Raffle sponsors included: Patagonia, CamelBak, Salomon Footwear, Skallywag Tactical, Remington, GovX, Black Rain Ordnance, Spike’s Tactical, Snugpak, Fighter Design, MAXTRAX, Glock, Smith Optics, KryptAll, Leupold, Echo One Zero, and Lancer. We’d also like to thank MOTUS for footing the bill and providing critical support. Whew—that’s a lot of support from a lot of great people.
