Shadow Program & Physician Coordinator
In partnership with the University of Nevada (UNLV) School of Public Health, The Kirk Kekorian School of Medicine, UNLV, Nevada, and The University of Zagreb Medical School in Croatia, The Shadow Program allows medical students in their last year of education, or students of the “Beyond Borders” elective to deploy with TEAM5 and receive hands-on experience treating patients under the instruction of the practitioners. Nightly lectures on the unique case studies by different cadres and personal training on safety and security while traveling abroad. This is a chance of a lifetime. But only a select few students are selected each year, so it's quite competitive.
Requirements include:
Currently enrolled in the “Beyond Borders” elective at UNLV (MPH, PHd)
Or currently a student at a medical or dental university
In your 3rd, 4th, or 5th year, of course.
Competitive GPA
Physically fit
Team player
The cost depends on the location (Travel, lodging, and food) and a small donation to the program.
Doctor Gabriella Hakim is the new coordinator for the Shadow Program and has completed a mission in Colombia.
For information about the program, you may contact our lead coordinator directly or at volunteers@team-5.org. She will respond as soon as possible.
Physician Coordinator:
Dr. Saskia Mueller, MD is now the physician coordinator for the new doctors attending their first mission abroad with TEAM5. Saskia began as a Shadow Program student, then the Shadow Program Coordinator and now moved up the ranks to her new position of Physician Coordinator after more than a half dozen deployed missions.
